HIDDEN GEM ON THE EAST COAST – BELHAVEN, NC

In honor of Galentine’s Day I wanted to reminisce and write about my most recent girl’s getaway with two of my favorites.

GOLDEN GIRLS GOALS

I have the best friends. Like, legit the best. There is a large group of my favorite ladies that get together from time to time, less now that our kids are all over the place and so busy. I have two ladies that we try and get away at LEAST twice a year no matter what. For real, we would build a compound if we could. Actually we daydream about one day being like the Golden Girls and having one place that we can just all live together and our children can visit us.

COMPOUND HERE WE COME

Lucky for us, this year, one of those ladies bought a precious, beautiful 1930’s bungalow near Belhaven, NC and it is the closest thing to our compound that we have ever had. We spent four GLORIOUS nights there and we still weren’t ready to come home. We were relaxed, happy, all of the things, but with a few check ins with the kids (and in the dream world where no one has jobs and responsibilities) we would’ve stayed for weeks. We did come home, I promise!

A FAVORITE SPOT IN BELHAVEN, NC

We went to dinner our first night in town (Belhaven, NC) at a delicious spot called Spoon River. When I say delicious I mean HEAVENLY. We unfortunately have some dietary restrictions in our little group, gluten free for one of us and dairy free for another, yeah we are super fun to dine with these days. BUT, Spoon River is so accommodating for these restrictions, the Chef even came out to make sure we were happy with his menu revisions. We loved it so much that we went back for Brunch (see Bloody Mary plate above). I really thought that there was no way that the Brunch menu could rival the Dinner menu but it knocked our socks off! SO delicious!!

The decor in Spoon River is cozy and welcoming with an eclectic artistic flair that was so beautiful. Everywhere you turn there are more collections of beautiful antique pieces mixed with gorgeous art and accessories. It is truly a culinary and interior design masterpiece that I can’t wait to visit again!

ECLECTIC SHOPPING AND DINING IN WASHINGTON, NC

We ventured into Washington, NC another stunning waterfront town! We stumbled upon a delicious spot called Blu, a Farm to Table Restaurant. When you walk into Blu at first you are surrounded by a store that has a collection of home interior items that are a mix of antiques and curated accessories for the home. You then walk a little further to find another side of the store that has amazing kitchen finds, a full olive oil bar and tasting area, and then a yummy bar and restaurant. The drink menu is INSANE with fun drink names, unique ingredients and a very well thought out combination of delicious liquors and spirits that I have really never seen before. Just sitting at the bar was a treat and then once we moved to the back room for lunch we were just as in love with that area and the food that followed! We can’t wait to go back to Blu in the warmer months so we can try out the outdoor seating!

WHAT ARE OUR FAVORITE THINGS FOR GIRL’S WEEKEND?

My friends and I some have SERIOUS favorite things that we like to bring on all girl’s trips away. First of all, our blanket are always a must. Our favorite blanket by far for lounging and sleeping is the Minky Couture Travel Size Blanket! It is perfect for coffee in the morning, snuggling and reading a book by the fire and also the perfect size for a single person in bed. It is the BEST! Another favorite of mine is the Cozy Knit Throw Blanket by Threshold. This knit throw is a little lighter in weight and a perfect companion blanket to the Minky Couture! I personally always bring both! We have also fallen in love with silky pajamas to lounge in, we are particularly loving these tiger silky pajamas! They are lighter weight and the best for lounging and napping! One more must for me is a comfy travel outfit…I love a matching set and I especially love one that can go from driving to shopping to napping like this one from Aerie!
